How to Choose an AWS Certification Practice App: What to Compare
How to choose an AWS certification practice app: question quality, explanations, exam-version currency, offline access, pricing, and what StudyKits offers.
Choose an AWS practice app by five things: original questions written to the current exam guide, explanations for every answer, the exam code it covers, offline use, and how you pay. Check the exam code first. Several AWS exams change in 2025-2027, and an app built for the old code teaches the old outline.
This guide does not rank other companies’ products, because their features and prices change often. It lists what to compare and states what StudyKits does and does not do.
The AWS certification hub lists every AWS exam guide and practice app.

What should you compare in an AWS practice app?
- Question quality — original questions written to the vendor’s exam guide, at a similar difficulty and style. No legitimate provider copies questions from the live exam: exam content is covered by the AWS certification NDA.
- Detailed explanations — every answer choice (right and wrong) should be explained
- Exam-version currency — the questions should follow the current exam code and exam guide (for example, SOA-C03 rather than SOA-C02). Check the exam code the app names.
- Mobile experience — many people study on their phones during commutes and breaks
- Offline access — you should be able to study without an internet connection
- Progress tracking — know which domains are strong and which need work
- Pricing model — subscription, per-exam purchase, or bundled with a learning platform
Which type of practice platform fits you?
Dedicated practice apps
Native apps focused on practice questions, usually with offline access and progress tracking. Good for short daily sessions. Usually no video courses or labs.
Web-based practice exams
Timed practice exams in the browser, often sold per exam. Good for full-length mock exams at a desk. Offline access is usually limited.
Full learning platforms
Video courses, hands-on labs and practice exams in one subscription. Good if you need to learn the services from scratch or your employer pays for access. Practice questions are one part of a larger product.
What does StudyKits offer for AWS exams?
StudyKits makes one app per exam. For AWS there are eight: Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02), Solutions Architect - Associate (SAA-C03), Developer - Associate (DVA-C02), CloudOps Engineer - Associate (SOA-C03), DevOps Engineer - Professional (DOP-C02), Security - Specialty, Machine Learning Engineer - Associate (MLA-C01) and Generative AI Developer - Professional (AIP-C01).
- Hundreds of original practice questions per exam (the number for each app is on its App Store page), organised by exam domains (the SOA-C03 app’s questions follow the previous exam outline; update in progress; see the app page)
- Explanations for every question, timed exam mode, readiness score, FSRS spaced-repetition flashcards
- Works fully offline; progress stays on your device; no ads, no tracking
- In-app languages: English, Japanese, Korean, German and Portuguese
- iPhone, iPad and Mac (App Store) and Android (Google Play)
- Free to download with free practice sets; a one-time purchase unlocks all sets in that app — no subscription. See the App Store for the price.
What StudyKits does not offer: video courses, hands-on labs, or apps for AWS exams outside the eight above (for example AIF-C01, DEA-C01 or SAP-C02).
Exam versions (October 2026): AWS retired SCS-C02 on December 1, 2025 (SCS-C03 since December 2, 2025); the StudyKits Security Specialty app’s question bank follows SCS-C02. DVA-C02’s last day is November 30, 2026 (DVA-C03 from December 1, 2026). MLA-C01 English delivery ended September 28, 2026, and MLA-C01 retires in all languages on January 14, 2027. Check the exam code in each app before you buy.
How should you combine a practice app with other study?
- Learn the concepts with one course (free AWS Skill Builder, or a paid course)
- Practise with questions written to the current exam guide, and read every explanation
- Do hands-on labs in a free-tier AWS account
The most important thing is that you actually do the practice questions — consistently, with thorough review of explanations. The tool you choose matters less than the discipline you bring to your study routine.

Frequently asked questions
Are practice app questions the same as the real exam?
No. Exam content is covered by the AWS certification agreement, so legitimate providers write original questions to the exam guide.
How do I know an app covers the current exam?
Look for the exam code (for example SAA-C03 or SOA-C03) in the app and compare it with the AWS exam guide index.
Can I study offline?
With StudyKits, yes. The apps work fully offline and keep progress on your device.
Is a practice app enough on its own?
Usually not. Pair it with one course or the free AWS Skill Builder material and some hands-on work in a free-tier account.
